A Good Cheap Lunch
When many of us think of chilli, we probably see a plate of chilli cheese fries, However, here we’re looking at turkey chilli. Ground turkey is usually cheaper, and is a lot leaner than ground beef.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb Ground turkey
- 1 15oz Can diced tomatoes
- 1 15oz Can black beans
- 1 15oz Can red beans
- 1`Green bell pepper
- 2 cup Brown rice
- 1 medium yellow Onion
This makes five servings, so you can freeze some for another day, if there is only you for lunch.
Total: $2.15/serving
Recipe:
In a large pot, sauté 1 yellow onion, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, and 1 bell pepper.
Once onions are soft, add 1lb of ground turkey and 1 teaspoon each of dried parsley, dried basil, and dried oregano.
After the turkey is browned, combine 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 can black beans, and 1 can red beans with 2 tablespoons of paprika, 2 teaspoons ground cumin, and 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
Simmer for 30 minutes to and hour.
Add brown rice.
Bad Fat
- Don’t eat Fried Chicken. Grill a chicken breast instead, much less fat!
- Try turkey sausages instead of brats.
- Fancy some chips? Try hummus.
- Pizza? Make you own?
- Pasta? Try whole wheat variety. Make your own sauce.
- Ice cream? Try frozen yogurt.
- Doughnuts for breakfast? Give oatmeal a try. If it’s too plain for your taste, add some fruit or raisins.
- Double Chocolate Cheesecake grab your fancy? It’s 800+ calories and 57g of fat a slice! Try a plain variety, it’s less evil to your body
